Machten, being actually a MacOS application, is exposed to all the problems inherent to MacOS applications, due to the flakiness and brain damage in the internals of the current MacOS implementation. For those who haven't figured out yet what I mean, a broken MacOS application can crash the whole system, including Machten and a badly designed one can let Machten starve of cpu cycles, suspending its operation for an indefinite amount of time. If Apple decided to invest money in a Linux port, which would have to be given away for free when it's ready, maybe they realized the importance of a real Unix implementation to the hardware sales.
