Linux requires a few megabytes of RAM and Flash = to be usable. Also, the boot time is typically way too long for some applic= ations. > It is also notable how people concerning about power consumption are > talking about multi-cores and single tasking applications, all in one > sentence. (:-)) >=20 That was just a reply to your concern about ARM performance ;) In small emb= edded projects, the 200MHz ARM single-chip microcontroller is a low-power a= nd small foot-print solution, as it contains necessary Flash, RAM, GPIO, US= B, A/D and D/A to host complete application. And real-time performance is t= ypically sufficient. If not, then a small FPGA (which might contain a small= controller, too) may do the trick. Of course, in some application even les= s powerful 20MHz ARM-based microcontroller is sufficient. And yes, you can = easily attach LCD and touch panel, if you wish: http://www.mikroe.com/arm/d= evelopment-boards/
