I have been hearing the "computers are so fast it does not matter anymore" story for at least 10 years now... But until I can Boot my OS in less than 3 seconds. Launch any application at random in the sub 100msec range Ecode and burn a 2 hour MPEG DVD in 3-4 seconds. Perform complicated embedded DSP algorithms in 10% of a CPU running on 100 Mwatts I am not going to believe it. Everything (and yes I mean everything) still runs slower than I'd like. And with the next generation of kids growing up feeling that instant gratitification takes too long, I suspect we still have a few years before anything other than a "guess want number" game runs fast enough.
