Correct me if I'm wrong, my Latin is rusty and my English is unreliable, but I think that the relations between "to succeed" and "the success" and between "to proceed" and "the process" indicate that originally, "access" has been a noun more than a verb. (latin accessus and accedi/accedere, I believe). At least "to success" is still not a verb AFAIK :-) -- Georg
