Maps ought to do the same. Personally, I think it would be handy to have a couple of subprograms to explicitly load & store the structure from/to a stream file, for the sake of simplicity. Some version of: "Here, I figured out a file for you and went and opened it already - you go put/get your data to/from it and I don't want to know how you did it..."
