The important observation is that unless there is some reasonably large body
of people willing to pay money to get support from someone, GNAT would
remain largely static. You might have a few hobyists who would tinker with
it and put changes back into the tree, but would you see any really serious
work done on it? What if a new language revision came out? What if new
target hardware comes about?

On the one hand, sure, GNAT is around so long as there is a source tree
somewhere that folks can download from. On the other hand, lack of paying
customers looking for support means - if not "death" - at least a
"vegitative state" as a project.
