What if some other collection of packages or classes gets identified as useful? (I have my favorites, but even without them, I'd still see some desirability to enable future expansion.) "Components" need not all be "Containers". Maybe we could lose the whole "Containers" part and make a flatter tree? Something like ACL.Lists.Unbounded? > As for the name itself, ACL is one of the better ones I've seen from the acronym > approach. I'd still like something with a bit of pizzaz. Java has "Beans", which > I don't believe stands for anything. > It could also be over-used - Access Control Lists? I like it for being simple and short, like STL or MFC. Pizzaz? For that, you kind of need a theme - Java has the whole coffee thing locked up and Ada traditionally has used things like Byron and Lovelace and Diana - names that may have something or nothing to do with Ada. Agusta? One of my compatriots in another existence liked to name all the company laptops and computers after Tequilas. Trademark infringements aside, I'd go for that. Especially when it came time to do some "research" to find a name for a new machine. :-) > Hmmm. How about "Grace"? It could be considered a homage to Adm. Grace Hopper. > Alternatively, it could stand for something like "General Reusable Ada Container > Environment". :-) > Grace? Hmmmmm....... "Amazing Grace"? "Grace-land"? "Princess Grace"? "Grace Jones"? "GrrrrrrACE!!!"? Hmmmmm...... (I'd say "Ko-Ko-Kosherrific!" if I thought there was anybody out there who would get the reference... :-) I like how it honors Adm. Hopper - any objections to having Ada be even more associated with the DoD? If it alternately stood for General Reusable Ada Component Environment, and honored Grace Hopper as well, I could go for it. I don't know if we'd get any really good marketing slogans or pizzaz out of it. What about just ACE? Ada Component Environment? Then you've got Deuce, Jack, Heart, Diamond, Full_House, Flush, etc. as new directions. I'm not fussy as long as it is relatively short and doesn't limit the library strictly to containers. Pick one and lets see if anybody hates it so much they threaten to leave the newsgroup and program in Cobol if we use it.
