To be fair to Robert Dewar, he has always been a ardent defender of COBOL as a good tool for its intended domain. Granted, COBOL is an uncommon choice for writing a compiler, but there is one tremendous advantage to a self-compiled compiler: it demonstrates that the compiler works for at least one large project!
