I think it is not much `longer' in assembly than in C. (I mean the ratio of the length of assembly code to C is probably the same as any other piece of code). The double loop is as easy to write in assembly as in C: and a call to strlen is equally easy. Lack of ability or willingness to think cannot be corrected by changing languages.
