If you wish to be a code-droid then by all means get a programming
degree.  If you want to be an engineer then you will require the
skills of critical analysis that the study of english can teach; the
understanding of human behavior that psychology can teach; the
understanding of creativity that art can teach; ...

That said, it is true that a interested student will take courses even
when they are not required, and an uninterested one won't get anything
out of required ones.  Maybe we should require interest instead of
courses :-)
