My apologies, that should have read:

    function "()" (File  : in File_Type;
                   Index : in Positive_Count)
                   return     Element_Type
    is
       Result : Element_Type;
    begin
       Read( File, Result, From => Index );
       return Result;
    end "()";

    procedure "():=" (File  : in out File_Type;
                      Index : in     Positive_Count;
                      Item  : in     Element_Type)
    is
    begin
       Write( File, Item, To => Index );
    end "():=";
