The social "arguments" such as they are, per usual, are set up to be self-fulfilling. I'd say you are screwed. And by implication, those of us affected by this decision will get screwed (in some degree). The software biz is much more like pop music than engineering. Fads rule. Glossy banality is the key to "success". Would any other technical area dismiss a technique, process, tool, whatever, that would give them a leg up in producing their product because it is not used by the competition? Quite to the contrary.
