Well, this depends on the domain you are talking about. If you said commercial safety critical systems (commercial aviation, nuclear power, high-speed rail transport, etc.), you would probably be wrong. If you said commercial business systems, I would certainly agree. : What can be done to improve the situation? : A very busy area these days is software development in the internet: : Web servers and Application servers. : ... : silly idea? what do you think? Building a web server or an application server in Ada seems like a very reasonable thing to do. Building components in Ada that run on top of one of the existing application servers also makes sense. Note that the ORBExpress/Ada CORBA ORB from Objective Information Systems (www.ois.com) is written in Ada 95, and performs many of the most critical functions of an application server. I am quite sure OIS is not going the open source route, but feel free to organize and get such an effort going that way yourself. Using one of the Ada95-to-Java compilers would make a lot of sense for part of this effort as well. : Bill. -- -Tucker Taft stt@averstar.com http://www.averstar.com/~stt/ Technical Director, Distributed IT Solutions (www.averstar.com/tools) AverStar (formerly Intermetrics, Inc.)
