Generally a compiler creates executables, so creating the runtime is part of creating a compiler. A language-A-to-language-B translator, on the other hand, is supposed to be a smaller task and exclude the need for such things. Since the SofCheck compiler that outputs C includes the necessary runtime, I think it reasonable that they call it a compiler rather than a translator. -- Jeff Carter "Apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"
