I track tens of thousands of programs coming out of governments and universities around the world, and this is one of the most useful programs I have acquired and used. It is a 2D graphical FEM program available for free from the SIMTEL repositories as good as any $2000 FEM package on the market. For educational uses, preliminary design uses and for rapid prototyping, it is highly recommended. Check it out. (I have no connection with them - I just like their stuff). Greg Aharonian =============== TOR (Russia) announces ELCUT 3.0A - 2D Finite Element Analysis System for PC. ELCUT is a simulation package, which solves plane and axisymmetric problems of electrostatics of up to 100,000 degrees of freedom on almost any IBM compatible personal computer. ELCUT's capabilities include: - anisotropic permittivity; - distributed and concentrated charges; - floating (charged) conductors; - Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions; - calculator: capacitance, electric forces, torques. ELCUT also solves problems of nonlinear DC magnetics, current flow, nonlinear heat transfer and stress analysis. ELCUT was developed to make field calculations maximum fast, easy and intuitive clear. After 3 hours playing with ELCUT, you can solve quite complicated problem in 15 minutes. The educational version of ELCUT (500 degrees of freedom) is available as a shareware for educational use and evaluation from the SIMTEL20 archive and its mirrors. At WSMR-SIMTEL20.Army.Mil and OAK.Oakland.Edu: pd1:ELCT30A[1-4].ZIP. ELCUT COMPONENTS With the model editor, you can define a finite element model quickly, easily, and completely in the ELCUT preprocessing phase. You also can import model fragments from AutoCAD or other CAD system. You can easily control the mesh density at several significant points. The smooth mesh in the whole region is produced automatically and very quickly. The interactive postprocessor will help you to analyze the results with various forms of presentation: field lines, color maps, X-Y plots, etc., calculate different surface and volume integral quantities in the contours of arbitrary shape. It also can produce the tabulated output to a file for subsequent use in your own program. The solvers based on an innovative Domain Decomposition method are 10 to 50 times faster than any analogous program for PC. Optimum domain decomposition is produced automatically at the preprocessing stage. Specific time expenses for solving linear magnetic problem of 50,000 nodes on different PC platforms are as follows: PC/AT-286/287 (16MHz, 2Mb RAM): 45 Min. PC/AT-386/387 (25MHz, 8Mb RAM): 8 Min. PC/AT-486 (33MHz, 8Mb RAM): 3.5 Min. HARDWARE CONFIGURATION Computer: A 286, 386 or 486 based IBM PC/AT compatible. Coprocessor: Intel 80287 or 80387 math coprocessor. Memory: 640K minimum, 2MB recommended (1MB extended), 4-8MB recommended for huge problems. Display: EGA, VGA color or LCD monochrome. Mouse: Microsoft mouse or 100% compatible. System: PC-DOS or MS-DOS (Rev. 3.3 or above). DISTRIBUTION KIT 1. Two 1.2MB or 1.44MB diskette. 2. Hardware protection key. 3. User's guide in English. In addition to packaged software, we also offer software maintenance, consultancy and Hot-Line technical support via e-mail and fax. ELCUT does not require expensive hardware, nor waste a lot of disk space, but it solves very large problems with high precision and a record speed. ELCUT has several customers around the world, including CERN in Geneva. TOR Cooperative Enterprise produces CAE/FEA software for PC, which incorporates Russian programming quality with achievements of Russian school of linear algebra. -------------------------------- All brands, products and service names mentioned are the trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners.
