I'm investigating communication between a SPARCstation and a 68030 board over a serial line for a Navy project. Our need for programs communicating between two SPARCstations is now on a back burner. We've been told that we cannot use sock ets between SPARC and 68030 unless the 68030 board has an operating system that uses sockets. So for now, we cannot use the Ada RPC toolkit or Q (sigh, just w hen I was beginning to get excited learning about RPC in Sun's Network Programming Guide and having fun sending messages between SPARCs!). I've been told that zmodem is like kermit. We would like to know if there is z modem written in the wonderful language of Ada? Our intention is to have a compiled zmodem linked to compiled Ada program on a 68030. This zmodem will furnish the low le vel communication to another zmodem accross the serial line on a SPARC. The SPARC zmodem will be linked to compiled Ada software on that SPARC. We want the comm unication to be transparant so that the procedures on the SPARC will think they are talki ng directly to procedures on the 68030 and vice versa. Please send me E-mail to my INTERNET address, or post responses to this group. Forgive me if my questions sound newbie. The reason is that I AM newbie to Sun , UNIX and Ada (since November 1992) and came from a MC68000/MC68020 & VAX VMS background - 6 years of it! I feel like a Brazilian indian visiting New York! I am besi de myself, and so is my twin! I will quit here before I get too out of hand. - thanks in advance, Bill --- Bill Martin Naval Air Warfare Center Code 3916(C2916) China Lake, CA 93555-6001 ----- PHONE: 619-939-1513 FAX: 619-939-8293 INTERNET: bill@sol.chinalake.navy.mil NAWCDECNET: sunman::"BILL@SOL" "When the steel sea conspires an armor, and her sullen and aborted currents breed tiny monsters, true sailing is dead." - J.
