Gen. Gary Stemley Message-ID: Organization: The World Public Access UNIX, Brookline, MA Date: Mon, 29 Mar 1993 21:03:11 GMT Date: 1993-03-29T21:03:11+00:00 List-Id: Well shiver my timbers. Just when I had established a long track record showing the total non-marketing of Ada outside the Mandated world in the trade presses and at trade shows (by those in the Ada community recipients of tax dollars to do a much better job), along comes along someone in the DoD who knows what end is up. In a very nice article in the March 29, 1993, issue of Computerworld, page 12, there is a full page article about the Army's RCAS system, in which US Army Major General Gary Stemley repeatedly mentions the many benefits to RCAS in using Ada, with a headline "9000 LANS, 60000 users, 2 million lines of code of Ada". The article is a great piece of work in reporting on one major success story with Ada that addresses the same issues that management at most companies are now addressing. Theis the first time in about four years that I have seen Ada mentioned so prominently in any Computerworld article. So kudos to Maj. Gen Stemley for doing something no one else inside the DoD is willing to do. I hope you don't get fired. In fact, I hope they fire all of the current vapor-marketing managers of Ada9X, STARS, etc and put you in charge. Maybe then Ada will get the exposure it needs outside the Mandated world to rise above being a niche language.
