You'd have to do extra work on an insertion. Also, for very small data items, the pointer overhead could be significant. Suppose you are stacking up 32 bit integer data samples as they arrive. Having two 32 bit addresses for each integer would be non-trivial if you are collecting a lot of integers. However, in my experience, you're either collecting up a relatively small amount of data when compared to available memory or the data themselves are significantly larger than the two pointers you'd need. In practice, I just find it difficult to imagine or recall situations in which it would have mattered much. They exist, but I think a doubly-linked-list would be acceptable for the bulk of cases and tell everyone else to go pound sand.
