No, it is not up to me. I'd rather be teaching Matlab (Octave
actually), but the course's description clearly stated C and other
disciplines will require this knowledge later.

Th university I teach is USP, the most prestigious in Latin America.
It is the wrong one in the sense that it is not mine, so I can't take
all decisions about the courses I teach.

Not quite, they will be required to know C in later courses and if I
don't teach them, who will?
