Well, someone with a good education will probably know more "school stuff" by the age of 14 than many others will learn at all. What is lacking will be life experience, a sense of scientific humility, and a good sense of what life is really about. I don't think I have had a particularly good education, but at 14 I had a good basis of the three Rs, basic grammar, a working knowledge of a few foreign languages, roughly the same amount of historic and geographic knowledge that I have now (those were out of vogue at that time), and decent introductions in physics, math, and biology. (Chemistry came later.) Culture history had been good, arts and crafts, like physical education, simply didn't have my attention. (Still, I was a decent swimmer.) My real problem with strong specialisation that early would be the lack of insight in the goals of life. Follow-ups set to misc.education -- Biep Reply via http://www.biep.org
