Conveners of such international standards working groups are normally selected for and commit to 3 year terms. My current term will be completed in September 1996 and it is therefore a natural time for a new Convener to take over. The work of international standards committees is done by national delegations. The US is responsible for supplying the Convener and Secretariat of WG9 on Ada. We have active participation from 10 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, and US) and other countries (China, Denmark, and Spain) participating less actively. Other countries are welcome. This is one of the most broadly based international standards committees. WG9 is responsible for the revision of Ada (ISO/IEC 8652:1995) and its interpretation, and standards for SQL linkage, real-time systems, and numerics. We are currently working on ASIS, reliable programming, distribution, bindings, and other topics of interest to the whole Ada community. If you are interested in serving as Convener, participating in the work of WG9, or just want more information, please contact me directly. -- Bob Mathis, Convener, ISO...WG9
