Our lives become increasingly dependent on commercial software systems which grow more complex, requiring higher reliability and security, combined with a need for flexiblity and change. A global need to engineer complex, yet portable and adaptable software systems and the requirement for a skilled software engineering workforce has become apparent. Ada 83 and Ada 95 are available now to provide the programming language support software engineers require to build these types of systems. Ada has been used successfully world wide to develop, integrate, field and maintain complex distributed systems. Officially published as an international standard, Ada 95 is already in use. Efforts are underway to establish techniques and strategies as well as products and tools, to allow a smooth transition to Ada 95. Ada 95 clearly provides a well designed and superior language for large, complex, changing software systems needs. As our world shrinks technically and politically, Ada is well positioned to be exploited in the global marketplace for its world class problem solving potential. Your Ideas Welcome Here! For TRI-Ada '95 we are actively soliciting the comments and ideas of commercial users to demonstrate how engineering software with Ada can be successfully applied in their domains. In addition to our traditional software systems engineering topics, we are emphasizing Ada's broad reach across DoD and government domains into the international commercial sector. Our focus will be to show how critical government, military and commercial applications can all benefit from using Ada and software engineering technology. We welcome and expect to maintain our traditional base participation at TRI-Ada. As you submit your paper, panel, tutorial and workshop proposals, consider how the work you have accomplished or ideas which you propose, may be applicable in a commercial environment, on a global scale, or how commercial practices may be of help to you. A New Approach Organizers of TRI-Ada '95 and the Washington Ada Symposium (WAdaS '95) are working together to improve both events. We are cooperating to provide complimentary programs which leverage the best and most successful features of each. The TRI-Ada '95 Conference will include refereed paper sessions, and panels and maintain our outstanding tutorial program. We are looking to expand our special sessions, workshops, and invited speakers sessions. Some possible topics for the conference follow, but this list implies no constraint. All submissions will be considered. Some Suggested Topics Penetrating and competing in commercial software markets Case studies of multi-national Ada developments Ada 95 transition tips and strategies Ada 83 and 95 in education and training Ada bindings and multi-language systems DoD-Commercial partnerships Ada 83 and early Ada 95 experience reports Distributed systems support tools Processes for transitioning legacy mainframe systems to client/server environments Commercialization of DoD standards Transitioning Ada based government reuse capability into commercial domains Ada 95 products and services International software marketing strategies Software as a competitive asset Contrasting commercial and DoD software practices TQM and software process improvement and ISO 9000 Acquisition changes in the DoD arena Ada's role in international technology transfer Software and systems engineering issues Software management issues Software systems development environments Formal methods Information systems Real-time systems Reengineering Reuse Besides providing an excellent location and the largest exhibition opportunity for Ada vendors, this year we will address products in transition to Ada 95. A conference program segment will be dedicated for vendors to communicate Ada 95 features and initial productization plans. Please send the Program Committee Chair an abstract or outline of information for presentation, identifying a point of contact for correspondence. The TRI-Ada '95 Conference Chair and Conference Committees invite your participation -- to reach out with Ada, communicate your experiences, and provide solutions. Not familiar with Ada, but interested? Contact us with your questions and ideas. We may already have or may develop a session around your issues. Ada just may be the answer for your critical systems concerns. Please contact the TRI-Ada '95 Conference Chair to suggest special sessions at TRI-Ada and for general information, questions and comments: Ms. Terry Doran Northrop Grumman Corporation Electronics & Systems Integration Division 1111 Stewart Avenue Mail Stop B38-035 Bethpage, New York 11714 USA Tel: +1 516 346 8553 Fax: +1 516 575 7428 Email: doran@nosc.mil Call for Papers and Panel Sessions An accepted paper will be published in the Conference Proceedings and presented by the principal author at the conference. Submit full papers or extended abstracts. Papers must be original. Indicate if this paper has been submitted elsewhere. A panel session gathers a group of experts on a particular topic who present their views and then debate each other and the audience. Submit abstracts outlining the proposed panel topic, moderator, panelists and whether the panelists have agreed to participate. Paper and panel proposals will be reviewed by the Program Committee and selected based on their applicability to the conference and interest to the attendees. Please confine identifying information to the front cover to allow for anonymous review. Consideration will be given to a broad spectrum of topics which are relevant to current software systems issues and the communities we are trying to reach. Submissions will be evaluated based on relevance, suitability for presentation in tutorial format, presenter's expertise and past performance. Proposals should be two to three pages long, and should include: the expected level of experience of participants; a tutorial abstract or outline; the expected benefit to the tutorial participants; the qualifications of the instructor(s); a list of previous presentations of the tutorial, if any; the length of the tutorial (half, full, or 2 day); and the maximum number of participants desired. Electronic submissions (ASCII) are encouraged; otherwise, mail 6 copies of your submittal to the TRI-Ada '95 Tutorial Chair: Dr. David Cook HQ USAFA/DFCS 2354 Fairchild Dr., Suite 6K41 USAF Academy, CO 80840-6234 USA Tel: +1 719 472 3131 Fax: +1 719 472 3338 Email: dcook@kirk.usafa.af.mil Call for Workshops Workshops entail a focused work session environment for a limited number of participants. Workshops provide a medium for a variety of experienced personnel to explore issues and concerns in a given domain. Proposals should provide a 1-page statement of a problem or issue to be addressed. Describe the workshop topic, coordinator(s), and criteria for participant selection. Workshop proposals will be evaluated by the Program Committee and selected based on their applicability to the conference and interest to the attendees. A list of planned workshops and requirements for participation will be published in the TRI-Ada '95 Advance Program.
