You might also want to state what happens when two or more entries get the same highest awarded marks. Also, you should very seriously think about making it a condition that all code and other material used in the submitted videos is made freely available for public download along with the video. If you don't want to make that mandatory, then maybe add 3 points or so for each entry that submits a full set of code and other resources used in the video. If the goal is to make people excited about Ada, it's going to be a lot easier to achieve that if the person interested in a specific video (which might not be the final prize winning video BTW) can easily duplicate the content of the video themselves and use that as a base to build their own experiments on. For that latter reason, the licence attached to any code or other material used in the videos must be stated up front. I've no experience at creating one and there would be time required to learn how to do it - as well as acquiring a camera. Can we open up the rules to allow pdf or other kinds of tutorials? A common one is the "share and share alike" one, which might promote the kind of community you are seeking to create. The home site is <http://creativecommons.org/> The middle tab has a "Choose a License" entry to various options. This is perhaps a little more formality that you might have expected, but may save some time and effort later. Bruce B. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 18+ messages in thread

I'm sure there will be other contests in the future that are not multimedia based but I'm looking to collect materials to use for Ada advocacy and A/V is one way to show a more modern living Ada community. There are of course many more and we will get to them all :) David Botton ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 18+ messages in thread

A large part of what I am doing the last 8 months is to corral us in to a cohesive independent community that is looking inward for strength. If we enjoy Ada programming, want to attract new people to use Ada, create new Ada jobs, and want to see Ada use in the long term future, it requires us to build an environment that is inviting and not condescending to new comers and their ideas, one that looks fresh and clean, inviting and supportive. Being part of a community is not about money, it doesn't take much to make things work. It takes small contributions mostly of time and sometimes a small bit of money from all and respecting those contributions and efforts as all having value. Is a supportive vibrant growing innovative Ada community in the interest of a corporate interest that depends not on innovation and creativity but fear of failure (both for their customers and themselves) one that would support such endeavors? It could be, but that requires humbling, communication and a benevolence focus. Such a surprising change would be nice if it happened the capacity for it is there, the people involved are all good people, but suffer from a lack of ability to accept outside perspectives (i.e. the need to humble). Given the only way to reach such a corporate interest is direct corporate contacts that are often ignored (i.e. the need to communicate), it would be better for us to concentrate on each other and future potentials that could be cultivated with or with out them (i.e. what benevolence will bring). So now that we have a community compiler, GetAdaNow.com, and once done with creating a nice collection of "Awesome things you can do with Ada" for LearAdaNow.com, I (and I hope others) will be on to pushing that info beyond the walls of the small Ada community. We can then push step 3, already slowly in progress of, JoinAdaNow.com for a drive for membership to an informal open Ada group (hopefully with or even under the existing groups).
