The cost is just as horrific and more often. E.g. powerbuilder, Oracle forms. I would not like to pay to maintain their C++ compiler for 30+ years because some project is using it. In fact, I'm pretty certain that I would have a hard time getting the vendor to understand the issues and keep that compiler supported. If I were into long life projects I would want Ada. I would know that there is an industry that understands the issues of long life cycles, safety critical software, etc. To me that means safety and assurance. Greetings,
