But for a serious non-trivial GUI you should nearly always use a builder. Its like the difference between using assembler and a high level language. That being said, I should mention that I didn't find Glade significanly worse than the various Motif-based GUI builders I'm used to. With those you also need to at least know some basics about Motif widgets and how they can be put together. But I don't know how it compares to the Windows-based GUI builders, which I think was the comparison being drawn. I haven't used any of them. Perhaps they are far easier.
