(sigh) You seem to be missing the point too. Yes, the old versions are still there. But in order for version 1.2 to be based on version 1.1, the person who created 1.2 had to have been working from version 1.1 (and not 1.0). Right? If this were a normal source file, then emacs would at worst warn the user that the file has changed on disk before it allows them to edit it. A similar warning would be given before the file can be saved. But the exception file is *not* a normal source file (unless you load and hand-edit the file, I guess), and no such warnings occur. Try it yourself with two emacs sessions if you don't believe me.
