Please respond to him. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SIGAda Standards Committee 15 December 1989 9X Working Group Call for Participation Dear Colleague: I am writing to you in my capacity as SIGAda Standards Chair, and in some urgency, with regard to a proposed SIGAda activity. Please take the time to read this letter today; if you are interested in active participation, please fill in the form enclosed, and send it so that I will receive it prior to 31 January 1990. Chris Anderson, who is heading up the Ada 9X standardization process for the US Government, has invited SIGAda to participate more actively in the 9X process. This is the international effort leading toward a revamped Ada language standard for the '90s. In particular, a meeting of the 9X requirements team, ISO WG 9, SIGAda, and others has been scheduled for the week of 23-26 April 1989, in Stockholm Sweden. SIGAda has been asked to select a small group to attend the meeting, and represent SIGAda there. All involved agree that the Standards Committee should take the lead in this activity. Toward that end, I am forming a 9X working group (9XWG) under the Standards Committee open to all SIGAda members who wish to participate. I have sent you this letter to inform you of the working group's formation, and its purpose. The working group will be meeting regularly at SIGAda meetings to review and critique the activities of the 9X process, and will also represent SIGAda in the 9X process, as well. For the purpose of the April 9X meeting, and other anticipated meetings with 9X representatives, it will be necessary to select individuals who can best represent SIGAda in that process. Therefore, I have written this call for participation, and distributed it to the entire SIGAda membership, with the intent of soliciting a broad response. If you have an interest in the 9X process, and you feel that you have the time necessary to devote, and can bring unique skills to bear on the issues, please take the time to fill out the enclosed questionaire. Members of the 9XWG core group, the 9XWG Principals, will be called on to collate, report, and possibly present the views of the working group in public forums, such as local chapters of SIGAda. The Principals selected must be ready to commit significant time toward the WG; this will entail meetings at most SIGAda conferences, as well as one or more 9X meetings a year. The activity is anticipated to extend for several years, and a commitment to the effort is a necessity. For those who cannot garner funding to underwrite their travel to the Sweden meeting, financial assistance is possible. However, we hope that funding can be obtained by the participants independently. Best wishes, Stowe Boyd SIGAda Standards Committee Chair - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Questionaire for SIGAda Standards Committee 9XWG Principal Membership Send to: Stowe Boyd SIGAda Standards Committee Chair c/o Meridian 10 Pasteur Street Irvine CA 92718 714/727-0700 sboyd@meridian.com Name: _________________________________________________ Address: _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ Telephone: _________________________________________________ E-Mail: _________________________________________________ Availability for Sweden meeting, 23-26 April 1990 Yes :.: No :.: Availability for Summer SIGAda meeting, 20-24 August 1990 Yes :.: No :.: How much time can you devote to the 9XWG on a yearly basis __________ Will you require subsidy for overseas travel?
