The UUNET numbers are remarkable:

November 2000:    877 postings
December 2000:   1007 postings
January  2001:   1317 postings

(My archive of de.admin.lists where these statistics are posted
doesn't go back further.)

The January number is probably influenced by Latin and other
irrelevant topics. ;-)
