Well maybe that just means you know more about swing-sets than gcc. In fact building emacs from sources is quite easy. Until recently all our customers did this routinely, since that's the way emacs is distributed. We have recently started to provide binary builds of EMACS, and will eventually provide binary builds of GLIDE. This is not so much because they are hard to build, as to make it more convenient to be absolutely sure you are working with the official supported version.
