I wonder if this is related to the MVS concept of storage pools and was exposed in Ada? I don't have an Ada compiler for MVS (although I would gladly accept a free one!) so I can't confirm this. If anybody knows for sure, I can give a little background on the MVS feature, if it would be interesting to anybody. Otherwise what I know is probably not relevant.
