What you propose has already happened: http://libre.adacore.com/GtkAda (even the support part). The no-cost version is under pure GPL. The commercially supported version is under GMGPL. This is a problem for people who would like to distribute proprietary software linked with GtkAda but are unwilling or unable to pay AdaCore for the GMGPL version that would allow them to do that. The whole thread was about creating an alternative for these people. Personally, I'm happy with GtkAda. -- Ludovic Brenta.
