List-Id: Babbage designed the Analytical Engine, a true computer. Ada Countess of Lovelace (yes, that is the correct title) did in fact develop mathamatical procedures (porgrams) to use Babbage's system to do Work. Babbage's system HAS been developed and made to work by a British school and Ada's work seems sound. We did not have computers in the 19th Century only because the machine tool technology was not up to the task. BABAGE and ADA DID repeat -->DID<-- solve the basic problems. Ada was truely the first programmer. Note: The correct spelling of Ada is Ada not ADA. Ada is a name not an acronym. The above is my opion not that of anyone esle. << I am not an EMPLOYEE of MITRE.>>
