There isn't really that much traffic in gnat-chat. I subscribed almost exactly a year ago, and have gotten 1674 messages in that time. That may sound like a lot, but its only an average of 4.6 a day. The reality of the traffic is that there are sometimes large spurts of traffic around contraversial postings, and there are more often large spurts with no messages for days.
