If you would like a copy of the agenda, contact Tony Alden (213-535-1623). The meeting is hosted by TRW and Los Angeles SIGAda and will be held on February 24-28, 1986, at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton and Towers, 5711 W. Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045-5631, [213] 410-4000 (Telex: 181755). The featured activities of the joint SIGAda meeting are: 1. A wide variety of tutorials will be offered Monday, 24 February, sponsored by the AdaJUG Education Committee. There are multiple parallel tracks of Ada tutorials, including: - ``No Frills Ada'' (Maj. Dick Bolz, Ret. USAF) - ``Constructing Tasking Applications'' (Ken Gamble, Ford Aerospace) - This tutorial discusses how to design and develop a large embedded application requiring tasks using PAMELA, a graphical design methodology, during the design and development of a multi-tasking application. The Ada solution will be presented with emphasis placed on tasking issues encountered during design and implementation. An elementary understanding of Ada tasking concepts is assumed. - ``Conceiving Systems in Ada'' (Mark Gerhardt, Infotec Development Inc and John Cupak, HRB-Singer) - This tutorial focuses on generating Ada idioms that may be used in control of large systems. Focus is on effectively combining individual Ada features to provide precise definition of system control. People attending should have a good knowledge of Ada. There is a corresponding ``Hands-Off'' Workshop to provide teams the opportunity to generate and to prepare design solutions for group discussion. Attendance to the workshop will be limited to 30 people in order to insure participation. People attending should have a good knowledge of Ada. The workshop is intended to reinforce the understanding of Ada and its effective application to systems development. - ``Computer Security Engineering'' (Stan Stahl, TRW and Ben Devito, TRW) - This symposium addresses the problem of how the developer of a computer system can build in the necessary security controls to prevent computer abuse (unauthorized disclosure and modification), concentrating on ``security engineering technology'': secure architectures for operating systems and networks, database security, security kernels, reference monitors, security models, and formal verification methods. These technologies are discussed in the context of National and DoD ADP security policy. Issues relevant to managing the development and accreditation of secure systems are also discussed. - ``Nuts and Bolts of Reusable Packages'' (Ed Berard, EVB Consulting) - This tutorial includes designing for reusability; designing with reusable software; how to structure packages for reusability; high level and low level code issues in reusability; general issues in portability. - ``Environments and their Relationship to Ada'' (Frank Belz and Hal Hart, TRW) - This tutorial presents an overview of concepts, developments, and issues regarding support for Ada in software development environments, including: the Stoneman model, the current status of representative commercial Ada environments, the government's environment interface standardization initiative and the CAIS, and an examination of (environment support for a spiral model of software development, as described in a paper by Barry Boehm. 2. The Ada/Architecture Issues Working Group, previously the AdaJUG Ada Language Issues Committee, will be meeting Monday, 24 February. The objective of the Ada/Architecture Issues Working Group is to develop criteria and requirements for next generation military standard instruction set architectures that are optimal for embedded computer systems' use of the Ada language. Hardware implementors, compiler developers, and users interested in this area are encouraged to attend. 3. A presentation on Environment Evaluation and Validation status and activities is featured on Tuesday, 25 February. 4. Wednesday, 26 February, is the joint AdaJUG/SIGAda Policy session. Reports from the AJPO and the services will be presented in the morning session. A panel will be featured during the afternoon: ``Ada Transition - A View from the Field'' coordinated by Mark Gerhardt. 5. On Thursday, 27 February, the Ada Development Methods session focuses entirely on object oriented design. A panel session and a birds of a feather session on the activities and status of the Evaluation and Validation team are also featured. Pre-registration is becoming more critical to the success of the joint meetings. We strongly encourage early preregistration with the enclosed form so that meeting room arrangements are appropriate for the number of meeting attendees. The LA Airport Hilton is approximately one mile due east on Century Blvd. from LAX international airport, which is served by all major airlines. The Hilton runs a 24 hour free courtesy shuttle approximately every 10 minutes -- look for the distinctive white Hilton bus with the rainbow stripe; or, just call the Hilton on the courtesy phones in the baggage claim area. Your hosts, TRW and Los Angeles SIGAda, remind attendees to expect all temperatures between 40 and 80 degrees, with a 50% chance of clear skies in February. Although the surrounding areas are not zoned for exercising, the Hilton offers a pool, 4 jacuzzis, and a Family Fitness Center. In addition, there is Golf, Tennis, Bowling, and Boating nearby. And, of course, skiing is only a few hours away. There are three bars and two restaurants in the hotel. The hotel will also be setting up a lunch time sandwich bar. Additional eateries (& shopping) can be found at the Manhattan Village Mall and Fisherman's Village (to name a few places, check out Tequila Willie's Apple Margarita [Manhattan Mall]). The LA Airport Hilton provides complimentary shuttle service to the Manhattan Village Mall. Tours can be arranged to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knott's Berry Farm, Hollywood, Chinatown, Griffith Park, Queen Mary & Spruce Goose, Marineland, Beverly Hills, the Homes of Stars, Olvera Street, Magic Mountain, Catalina Island, Tijuana, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, NBC Studio, etc. You might also consider going on a Whale Watching Cruise. Please note that the Hilton only guarantees holding our block of special-rate rooms until February 7; please mention the Ada meetings when reserving to assure the rates. NOTE: The Hotel has sold out for the night of Wednesday, Feb 26. Reservations are still being taken for the other nights. We apologize for this inconvenience. Listed below are alternatives in the immediate area. Many are within walking distance of the Hilton. We recommend that those without confirmed reservations at the Hilton start calling ASAP. Please also pass the word to all your colleagues who might be late making reservations for the meetings. Hotel Name Approx. Dist.
