Those of us with actual experience with Ada do not consider this
unusual. I was involved in real-time communications protocol stacks for
a big-endian PowerPC under VxWorks that were used without change on a
little-endian PC under Win9X. I have developed numerous applications
that ran without change on VAXs, UNIX boxes, and PCs. One has to
conciously intend the code to be portable, but other than that
there's "nothing to it".
