I think you miss the point -- it is the other way round, if there were a trivial conversion, then it would show that there was no significant issue of expressive power. The fact that there is no trivial conversion is *suggestive* of the fact that there is some important issue of EP, but certainly not proof. In fact, I strongly agree that this is a critical factor, and I think the excercise of trying to think about the tool, as you did in your msg, provides valuable clues as to why this is so!
