This is such a well known example, which has been beaten to death in previous threads, that it hardly seems worthwhile. Part of the trouble with CLA is that it tends to recycle old threads as new people join the discussion, but that can be quite time wasting! The issue with binary operators in tagged types is quite fundamental.
