You could have saved all this time by using a tool (which its name escapes me right now). The idea is to build an indexed database of the source code, then you can use it to look for things. It is very fast. You can ask it things like: find where this variable/function is defined. find all header files used by a C file etc.. many more things. I've used it about 2 years ago. it was made by Bell Labs then. it was not free. but you could buy the source code. mike
