Too bad it doesn't have a catchy name or acronym. :-) I'm not entirely sure I'd qualify it as "well understood", though. I'm not even sure the GPL is all that well understood. I certainly seem to notice something different every time I read it. And every time I see a thread about it, there seem to be an awful lot of misunderstandings.
