Actually, there is a newer version of the LRM that I believe is being
maintined by:
"J. David Bryan" <dbryan@bcpl.net>
but it didn't make GNAT 3.11p. I don't recall where he kept it, but I have
a copy at:

I agree with your assessment, although if you look at the definitions
of Alphanumeric and Numeric, they are the same. So, it's merely a purist
sort of thing.
