I realize this is just an example, but in fact GNAT contains the package GNAT.Regexp that provides exactly this functionality. We are generally adding components to the GNAT.xxx library as we go on. If anyone has some nice contributions for this library, they would be welcome. In fact I think Marcus Kuhn will be actively collecting such contributions once 3.11p is out (which as mentioned earlier will be this coming week).
