The original intention of 'int' was to give you a signed machine word.

On a 64 bit machine it makes perfect sense to have a 64 bit int.

It should have been done:

    short 16 (bits)
    int   64
    long  32
    vlong 64

Yes you really do need a new vlong type.  Plan 9 has one.
