Let's see: Sun defines a standard (which is freely available, by the way) for constructing a Java implementation. This Java works on many platforms, *including* Windows. Their specification has even enabled Microsoft to create their own compatible implementation. On the other hand, Microsoft's extended Java is proprietary and for Windows *only*. In what way is Sun tying Java to their proprietary platform? What platform would that be? Solaris? In what way is Java designed to specifically take advantage of Solaris, but be crippled in Windows?
