The savings, in constant dollars, comes in part from getting rid of no longer needed systems such as the World Wide Military Command and Control Systems, which was shut down in September. GCCS is "the system of record for joint command and control operations," according to Rear Adm. John Gauss, DISA's deputy director for engineering and interoperability. Officials hope that continued use of the GCCS will allow further elimination of unnecessary systems. AXI has been available for several commercial Ada compilers. Broadening AXI's horizon to include support for GNAT 3.09 gives Motif developers added versatility in selecting the Ada compiler that best suits their development needs and cost requirements. This new release of AXI, Version 4.1.3, accommodates X/Motif developers who are migrating existing Ada 83 applications to object-oriented Ada 95, as well as those who are beginning new development efforts in Ada 95. Customers with AXI Version 3.x licenses can upgrade to AXI 4.1.3 without difficulty since the new version's Ada 95 API is identical to the Ada 83 API. "What the COE is all about is putting a software infrastructure in place for widely used software services," said DISA's Rear Adm. John Gauss. "The COE represents a collection of software executables that are common across a wide variety of programs, so it is an enabler of reuse. It is modular, which lets it be scalable."
