In what respect do the rights conveyed to a user by RR exceed those conveyed by Ada Core Technologies? It's certainly the case that some licenses DO convey more rights, e.g. the BSD license. Microsoft certainly prefers the BSD license to the GPL (though they of course would use neither themselves) since they can take BSD stuff and incorporate it into their proprietary products. We deliberately prohibit Microsoft from doing this, just as they prohibit us from using their software (indeed they don't even give us the sources :-) One thing I should make clear is that I am not saying I disapprove of the license that RR uses (unlike Randy who philosophically objects to our licensing). I think that companies may use any license that makes sense to them, that's the way copyright works. We prefer to use a rather free license because, as I said before, this is better for our customers, and we find it is smart from all points of view to give our customers what they need!
