The updates were made to conform to the new Army Reuse Policy (established in April 1996) and the November 1995 DoD Software Reuse and Vision Strategy. Copies of the new plan will be available after November 1, 1996, and can be accessed on the World Wide Web at http://arc_www.belvoir.army.mil/odisc4/odisc4.htm. Reuse Revealed, by Robert L. Scheir provides four affordable and achievable steps for developing a reuse plan. For each step, there is an analysis of why it should be taken and of the costs and risks involved. The four steps in order are: build the business case for reuse, build the infrastructure for reuse, build on what you have, and build momentum now. Source: ComputerWorld. The new courses will begin in the second quarter of Fiscal Year 1997. The titles are: Management Introduction to Software Reuse, Initiating Software Reuse, and Implementing Software Reuse. For more information about how to register for these classes, contact the ARC 703/806-3864. ObjectAda 7.0 for Windows Professional Edition was developed by Thomson Software Products and released last month. Writer/Analyst Peter Coffee looks at the features of ObjectAda (most notably that it can compile to Java bytecodes) and compares the compiler to similar compilers developed in C++, Delphi, and FORTRAN. In addition to his product review, Mr. Coffee also states in the article that "Any shop looking for a non- proprietary object-oriented language will find Ada 95 an attractive alternative to Smalltalk, C++, or Java." For more information about ObjectAda 7.0, contact Thomson Software Products at 619/457-2700.
