Ummm, but arguably Java's fairly instant success was exactly due to coming with the GUI built in, so that GUIed applets started popping up all over the Web, evangelizing Java without extra effort by Sun. I suspect that a standard GUI is high on the list of what is needed to make Ada more popular, and luckily, Ada to Java compilation provides that pretty much for free already.
