An academics job is to discover new approaches and techniques. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. But, you can't tell until you try them. And often what you or I loathe is held dear by other "real" programmers. The basis of almost every tool I use was created by an academic. Their successes vastly outweigh their failures. Lastly, I don't believe that we can lay the blame for Hungarian on academics. I believe that it was a Microsoft employee who is responsible for this abomination. But, I'm not sure. g
