Disagree strongly. Having done some work on Unix since 1976, I can assure you that Unix as implemented is NOT mis-designed. It is not designed at all, it has 'just growed'. What was once a neat toy and useful tool to fit in 16K words is now a monstrosity whose time (should have) passed long ago. But that's another thread...
