When you have numeric types reflecting problem
properties, chances are you instantiate the
proper I/O generic with a suitable subtype.
At that point, you can set Default_Width := 1;

That causes comparative length, just as there
is a useful section at the head of a decent
Cobol program, I should think.
Someone with convincing arguments would have
to explain these efforts for "just some numbers"...
